US President Barack Obama has commented on the FIFA scandal, saying that "people want to make sure that football operates with integrity."

"I will say that, in conversations I've had here in Europe, people think it's very important for FIFA be able to operate with integrity, and transparency and accountability. And so, as the investigation1 and charges proceed, I think we have to keep in mind that, although football, soccer, depending on which side of the Atlantic you live on, is a game. It's also a massive business. It is a source of incredible national pride and people want to make sure that it operates with integrity. "
 
Obama made the comments in Germany, at the G7 summit.
 
US prosecutors2 have charged 14 people including 7 senior FIFA officials, alleging3 that bribes4 and kickbacks5 of more than 150 million US dollars were accepted over a 24-year period.
