Glenn Frey, a founding member of the rock legends "the Eagles," has died at the age of 67 in New York City.

The news was confirmed by the band on its website on Monday, saying Frey had undergone intestinal¹ surgery in November.

His condition relapsed just before the Eagles were scheduled to play at the Kennedy Center Honors in December.

Frey had been played guitar with the Eagles, as well as piano and keyboards, and sang lead vocals² on many Eagles hits such as "New Kid in Town." and "Take It Easy,"

As a member of the Eagles, Frey won six Grammy Awards, and five American Music Awards.

The Eagles have sold over 120 million albums worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, the first year they were nominated.

As a solo artist and with the Eagles combined, Frey has released 24 Top 40 singles on the Billboard³ Hot 100.
