A plan for tackling soil pollution in China has been unveiled.

According to the latest figures from the environment and resources authority, over 16 percent of China's surveyed land is polluted by heavy metals like cadmium,
arsenic4, lead and mercury.
Soil pollution is severe in three major industrial regions - the old industrial area in Northeast China, the Yangtze River
Delta5 on the east coast, and the Pearl River Delta in the south.
To control soil pollution by heavy metals, China has
vowed9 to cut the discharge of major heavy metal
pollutants10 in key industries by 10 percent from 2013 levels, by 2020.
