Aston Martin has recalled cars around the world as a result of problems with its Vantage model in China.

The recall is of nearly 1,700 Vantages globally, following a number of incidents in which the vehicles lost power after stalling at speed.

 

News agency Reuters reported that the problem could impact models which are fitted with Sportshift I and Sportshift II gearboxes.

 

Speaking to Reuters, Aston Martin Chief executive Andy Palmer said that the fact that the recall started in China...

 

"...demonstrates the importance of China, the sophistication of the customer and the diligence of the authority there."

 

We've reported extensively on the growing importance of China to luxury car manufacturers over the last few months.

 

In May, a new edition of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S was revealed in Shanghai, which will only be available in China.

 

Called the 'Great Britain Edition', the latest variant¹ of the supercar is priced at just a tad under £240,000, and will have a limited production run of just five vehicles.
