Multi-function smart street lamps were piloted on Sunday in South Second Road, Tianhe District of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.

The smart street lamp, which has multiple functions, can act as a surveillance camera, a base station, a road sign and a phone charger. It is equipped with a touch screen on the base of the street lamp, allowing pedestrians¹ to check the road conditions, connect WIFI and search for city information.

 

Guangzhou as a pilot city for 5G networks, the demand for 5G micro base stations is expected much higher than that of traditional 4G networks, and the smart lamp poles can provide basic support for carriers, power supply and communication. According to local authorities, "As a high-quality carrier of micro base station, smart street lamp poles will provide the best way for future 5G network layout."

 

At present, some lamp poles are also equipped with electric vehicle DC charging piles. Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau says this is the first for China. With independent innovative² technology, the high-power DC charging piles have a charging power of 60 kilowatt³, which is much higher than the power level of 7 kilowatt AC charging piles commonly used in domestic smart street lamps. In 0.5 hours, the charging capacity can reach up to 80%. The smart lamp effectively solves the charging problem of new energy vehicles.

 

The smart street lamp is also equipped with a self-developed secondary anti-leakage protection device to ensure the safety and reliability⁴ of the street lamp pole installation.
