Nearly 12.9 million people had been placed on a credit blacklist for defaulting on their court orders by the end of 2018, according to a white paper released by the Supreme¹ People's Court (SPC).

Defaulters had been restrained from purchasing about 17.5 million plane tickets and 5.47 million high-speed train tickets by the end of 2018, said the white paper titled Judicial² Reform of Chinese Courts (2013-2018).

 

In 2013, the SPC introduced the system of blacklist of dishonest people subject to enforcement. Since 2016, it has cooperated with government authorities and extended penalty restrictions³ on defaulters to traveling, house purchasing and investment, among others.

 

Such penalty restrictions had forced 3.51 million defaulters to fulfill⁴ their obligations, according to the white paper.
