In a bid to keep crowd sizes down, authorities in charge of the Badaling section of the Great Wall in northern Beijing are introducing real-name online ticketing as of June 1st, with daily ticketing being capped at 65,000 per day, reports the Beijing Daily.
《北京日报》报道,为控制八达岭长城景区的游览人群规模,主管部门决定从6月1日起实行全网络实名制预约售票。
Individual and group visitors are being asked to reserve their tickets a week prior to their arrival. Once there, visitors will have to scan their ID cards to gain access to the World Heritage Site.
In 2018, the Badaling section of the Great Wall received more than 9.9 million tourists. Tourist numbers tend to swing dramatically during the off-season and peak seasons. Authorities say by adding the new restrictions1, people's personal safety, and experience on the Great Wall, will be enhanced.
Authorities in Beijing instituted a similar system at the Forbidden City in 2011 during peak holiday periods. In 2015, visitors to the Palace Museum were limited to 80,000 per day, with ID being required to purchase tickets. In October, 2017, the Palace Museum moved all its ticket sales online.
