The number of people in the United States who have tested positive for the coronavirus has now passed 5 million. The latest figures published by Johns Hopkins University in the US means that one in every 66 Americans has been infected. David Willis has more details. As well as accounting for about a quarter of the coronavirus cases globally, this country also leads the world in the number of deaths from the coronavirus, more than 162000 according to Johns Hopkins. Five states, Florida, Texas, Georgia, California and New York account for about 40% of the infections. But there have been signs in recent weeks that the virus is spreading from the so-called Sunbelt states in the southeast and the southwest and into the midwest. President Trump continues to stress the virus will simply go away in time.
