Chinanews, Beijing, Apr. 19 – The government of the Tibet Autonomous1 Region has issued a set of new policies this year. Under these new policies, local Tibetans will enjoy more free medical care; the children of Tibetans will be covered by the government’s compulsory2 education system; and poor Tibetans will get government subsidies3 in a more comprehensive way, the People's Daily reported.

Since Tibet was peacefully liberated4 in the 1950s, local Tibetans have always benefited from a free medical care system. Starting from this year, local Tibetans will have 100 yuan worth of free medical care, or 10 yuan more than the previous free medical standards. This is the sixth time that local government raised the standards of the free medical system. It is said that 2.37 million Tibetans will benefit from the free medical system.

In addition, local government has tried to improve the compulsory education, under the slogan that “every child will be covered under this system while not a penny will be charged on them.” Since 1985, local government has set up boarding schools for primary and middle school students. Children who come to these boarding schools are exempted5 from tuition fees and living expenses.

This year, Tibetan government will allocate6 320 million yuan to improve the living conditions of children studying in boarding schools. From the autumn semester this year, the educational fund that every child can get will be raised from 1,200 yuan to 1,350 yuan. For pupils and junior middle school students studying in the border regions, their education fund will be raised from 1,300 yuan to 1,450 yuan.

Starting from this year, herdspeople whose net annual incomes are below 800 yuan can live on government subsidies, and 230,000 Tibetans will benefit from this system.
