Chinanews, Dalian, August 28 – An old couple in Dalian feels extremely lonely after retirement1, but their children are often tied up in their own business and seldom stop by. Thus the old couple has decided2 to pay 1,000 yuan a month to the kids if they will come to dine at their house twice a week.
The old couple has a total pension of 4,000 yuan a month, which is enough for them to live a well-off life in Dalian, but money can not ease their loneliness. “Our kids live not far from here, but they don’t drop in on us often, not even after we called to invite them,” said Lin, the father. “We understand that they have career and life of their own, but we really miss them.” Thus the old couple has worked out a plan: “If they think their work is more important, we will pay.” They also offer a bonus to their kids if they bring grandchildren with them. The old couple even has prepared the sample of a contract, bearing the signatures of theirs and those of local community administrators3.
