Chinanews, Beijing, August 31 – More and more females in China have fallen in love with online games. Statistics show that female players have taken up 49.6% of the online gaming market, and there are many games specifically designed for them.
In 2003, only 8% of online gamers were females, and the proportion in 2004 was 16.61%. Our reporter visited several Internet cafes in Beijing, finding many women absorbed in games there. According to the record by an Internet cafénear Huayuanqiao Overpass1, 46% of its customers last week were females, and the proportion at weekends could be as high as 51%. iResearch Group in Shanghai has conducted a survey on online gaming recently, which shows that 60.8% of the female respondents like cartoon-graphic games, while only 32.9% of male respondents like such games. Besides, the favorite character of 14.3% female respondents is “fighter” or “warrior”, but 31.4% of male respondents like fighters. Meanwhile, 58.5% of the female respondents would like to play spell-casters, and the proportion of among male respondents is only 44.5%. Light online games like chess or poker2 are more attractive to females than strategy or role-playing games. The average gaming time for a female is 2 hours a day, much longer than before.
