Chinanews, Beijing, August 31 – Many elementary school pupils in Beijing use suitcases as schoolbags while going to school to contain their daily thickening wads of text and reference1 books.
According2 to a survey conducted in major shopping malls in the city, many parents have bought their kids special suitcases for their schoolbags, with wheels that can be dragged along. Some shopping malls have set up special counters3 for such suitecases. A shopkeeper told our reporter that there are at least 20 kinds of suitcase schoolbags available in her shop, and their price is around 100 – 200 yuan each. Most of her customers are elementary school pupils, she said. “I have no time to fetch my son at the end of school every day, but it is impossible for him to carry the heavy schoolbag on his back. Thus I bought him a suitcase, ” said a father in Beijing. Since textbooks have become thicker and bigger, it is not likely for elementary pupils to lighten4 their schoolbags in the near future.
