Chinanews, Beijing, September 17 – Beijing police announced recently that they had set up special online database including the information of thousands of thieves in Beijing. Meanwhile, they will enhance cooperation with their overseas counterparts to strike down international thefts, particularly during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The information in the database will be available to all the police stations in Beijing, and now the city is trying its best to present theft-free Olympic Games. A campaign against theft was kicked off on last July 20, which will last for a year. In the campaign, Beijing police will organize civies to patrol neighboring communities to the Olympic stadiums and gyms, major scenic1 spots and department stores. Other places with high incidence of theft will also be covered. By September 12, 225 theft cases had been cracked and 350 suspects of 15 theft gangs arrested.
