Chinanews, Beijing, September 20 – In the first 6 months of 2007, 593 persons were confirmed to have been infected with AIDS in Beijing. The information was released at the 2nd Asia “Preventing AIDS via Sports” Seminar. Beijing is faced with serious AIDS epidemic1.
The 593 persons include 432 non-native Beijingers and 11 foreigners. The number of new AIDS infected persons has increased by 50% annually2. In the first 10 months of 2006, 633 such persons had been reported. Most of AIDS infected persons in Beijing are young people, and there are more males than females among them.
