Chinanews, Shanghai, Sept 28 – In China, many young people born in the 1980s have a short marriage life. Their marriage may last for a week, a month or about half a year.
A reporter from the Shanghai Morning Post recently learned from the Shanghai Marriage Association that in future, several consultants1 from the association would offer some training programs for new couples every month. For those who have married for less than a year, the consultants may give them more useful tips on the marriage issue, they said. Right now, the training date is set on the third Saturday every month. On that day, three marriage consultants will try to solve the problems for new couples, especially couples who plan to get divorced, to see what’s wrong with their marriage and how husbands and wives can get on well with each other. Information shows that in Shanghai, about 102 couples get divorced per day, most being young couples born in the 1980s. Last year, about 5,876 young couples under 30 got divorced. Some young couples divorced quickly after a short marriage life. Some got divorced for trivial2 matters. It is said that people born in the 1980s are prone3 to get divorced compared with the other age groups. So it seems even more necessary to offer them some tips before things turn too bad. Compared with people born in the 1960s and 1970s, the post-1980s generation show little tolerance4 towards others. As a result, they are more likely to get divorced. At the same time, as society has developed, the younger generation have higher expectations of their marriage. If they have found something wrong in their marriage, in most cases they will choose to get divorced rather than tolerate it, said Chen Jianrong, director of the Shanghai Marriage Service Center.
