Chinanews. Beijing, October 12 – Xiao Bo, a 10-year-old boy from Zhejiang Province, received the kidney1 donated by his uncle in Beijing Friendship Hospital, and he is the youngest kidney-transplant patient in China. Now his condition is very good, and he will be home soon.

Xiao Bo was found with kidney failure when he was 7. Last year, when his disease fell to a fatal condition, his uncle decided2 to donate his kidney to save him.

When Xiao Bo first came to the Friendship Hospital, he was only 1.17 m tall and 20 kg in weight, nearly the same as a 5-year-old kid in both aspects.

The operation was completed on the morning of September 18, and it was a great success.

By now, the Friendship Hospital has conducted 3,400-plus kidney transplantations, and quite a large number of patients have survived for longer than 15 years. One patient has even survived for 30 years. About 10% of the kidney transplantations have been conducted in China, that is, 25 – 45 a year.
