Chinanew, Nanjing, October 22 – The German Thoroughfare, an event for foreigners to experience German culture and lifestyle, was kicked off in Daxinggong Square in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province on October 19 thus enabling Nanjingers to taste German food and enjoy German art without stepping out of their hometown.
“We want to show Nanjingers a modern and innovative1 Germany via the event, thus to promote wider cooperation between the two countries,” said Michael Schaefer, the German Ambassador. The German Thoroughfare is part of the Sino-German Travel-Together, a 3-year program jointly2 hosted by the China and Germany for residents of both countries to experience the culture of each other, thus joining hands together for a better future, particularly for the building of hospitable3 cities. The venue4 of the event is decorated in red, with a large German flag on the floor. The theme of the German Thoroughfare is “marching cities”. Meanwhile, a contest for college students of the two countries is held in Nanjing, to collect their plans of renovating5 the Daxinggong Square in a sustainable manner.
