Chinanews, Hangzhou, Oct 22 – A 106-year-old man and 81-year-old woman obtained their marriage certificates at the civil affairs office in Lucheng District, Wenzhou, Zhejiang, last Thursday. When the old couple got their marriage certificate in hand, people who witnessed the moment all applauded in congratuation, the Wenzhou Metro1 News reported.

So far, this is the oldest couple to register for marriage in Wenzhou, said Zheng Guangliang, deputy director at Lucheng civil affairs office. People who worked at Zhejiang Provincial2 Civil Affairs Bureau that even in Zhejiang, they had found no couples who tied the knot at such an old age.

On his marriage day, Mr. Pan wore a black suit. When he and his wife, Ms. Chen, got their marriage certificates from the deputy director, all the staff workers at Lucheng Civil Affairs Office sent their best wishes for them.

Mr. Pan and Ms. Chen had got to know each other for about eight years before they finally married.

“From now on, she will be my wife and we will never be separated,” said Mr. Pan.

Ms. Chen was a little bit timid on that day. “He (Mr. Pan) insisted on obtaining a marriage certificate. I know we will live happily together forever even without it,” she said.

Mr. Pan was from Yongjia County. 20 years ago he came to live with his children in Wenzhou after his wife had died. Ms. Chen was also from Yongjia County. Her husband had died 11 years ago. The two senior people got to know each other eight years ago when Ms. Chen was recommended to work at Mr. Pan's house to take care of his life. From then on, the two old people had established a very good relationship between them. Every time when they went out, the neighbors often saw them walking together.

Mr. Pan's children are all filial to him. His eldest3 daughter is 87 years old and his youngest son is already 70 years old now. This year, Mr. Pan has begun to be covered by the local basic social security system, which has enabled him to get 300 yuan of subsidy4 every month from the local government. His children give him another 300 yuan to pay his living expenses.

“I don't have much money but she is still willing to marry me. I know she really loves me,” Mr. Pan said.
