Chinanews, Guangzhou, October 25 – Since August 1, 2003, local stray kids rescue centers have helped 4,158 stray children, and 3,993 of them have been sent back home.

Most of such children were non-locals, and more than 93% of them had not completed elementary school. 59.3% of them had committed minor1 offences. 85.7% of them had run away from home due to the bad relationship with their parents, often caused by inappropriate education methods, divorce of parents, parents being too busy to take care of them, etc.

Currently there are around 150 kids staying in the rescue center, one third of whom are handicapped and deserted2 by their parents. 12 kids have stayed in the rescue center for more than 2 years, for their families are nowhere to be found.

“Every citizen has the responsibility to help street urchins3 by simply calling the police,” said a staff member of the rescue center.
