Chinanews, Guangzhou, Oct 25 – “If you like someone, throw a pillow at him or her!” At a recent matchmaking meeting held in Guangzhou, the event organizer tried to invigorate the atmosphere by proposing1 a pillow fight. As soon as he raised the idea, many young white collars who behaved in a gentle manner minutes ago started to throw pillows at each other, the Guangzhou Daily reported.
With the pillow fight, it was hoped that participants would feel more relaxed and make more friends at the meeting, said the event organizer. In Guangzhou, a matchmaking event is usually held in the form of a lunch party or a dancing party. In order to leave a good image on others, participants usually dress formally on these occasions2. In the just mentioned matchmaking party, however, the organizer, a website operator3, asked participants to wear jeans and T-shirts. About 100 people attended the matchmaking party held in Guangzhou over the weekend. Participants' average age was about 29 years old. Most of the participants were office workers or teachers with a good educational background, said the event organizer with a pseudo name Xiao Long Nu. It seemed that participants really had great fun at the pillow fight. They started to get familiar with each other and some people began to exchange their contact information. Such game can make people feel relaxed and less timid4. However, if people want to know each other better, they need to have more close communication, said Ms. Zhang, who worked as a department manager at a state-owned enterprise5. “One doesn't need to take a side in joining the game and it doesn't matter whether one wins or loses. What's more important is that people can behave more naturally during the pillow fight,” Xiao Long Nu said. “After this event, about half of the 100 people who participated in the event have found someone they are interested in and want to carry on the exchange. ”
