Chinanews, Beijing, Oct 30 – Based on the experiences of other Olympic host cities, it is reasonable for Beijing to witness a temporary economic drop after the Olympic Games. However, on the whole, Beijing's economy will continue to grow steadily1 and fast, said Yu Xiuqin, spokesperson at Beijing Municipal Statistics Bureau recently, the Beijing News reported.

Statistics show that during the first three quarters of this year, Beijing invested 74.71 billion yuan in its city construction, up 33.5% from last year. Most of the city construction focused on energy building, transportation and telecommunications.

As Beijing is going to host the Olympic Games, most of the city construction is related with the building of Olympic venues2 and infrastructural3 facilities for the Olympic venues. Beijing's economy has been growing steadily and rapidly for nine consecutive4 years and in many cases, such high economic growth has been boosted by the upcoming Olympic Games.

For most Olympic host cities, their economic development could be divided into three stages, the economic development during the Olympic preparation period, and econoimc development after the Olympic Games. During the first two periods, most host cities enjoyed a rapid economic growth. However, after the Olympic Games, their economy might fall down a little bit. As one of the Olympic host cities, Beijing will probably experience a similar situation, Yu said.

After the Olympic Games, Beijing's new district construction, track construction and infrastructure5 construction will remain lively. Urbanization process will bring new vigor6 to the city. At present, Beijing's economic and social development is moving ahead at a fast speed. The city's per capita GDP has reached more than 6,000 US dollars. Beijing is moving from a relatively7 prosperous stage to a prosperous stage.

“Even if economy slows down after the Olymipc Games, I think the range will be rather limited. On the whole, Beijing's economy will continue to grow steadily and rapidly,” Yu concluded.
