Chinanews, Beijing, Nov. 28 – Nowadays, many men in Beijing are keen on taking plastic surgeries to make them look more handsome or masculine. Since last year, men having taken plastic surgeries at hospitals have accounted for 30% of the total number and the proportion tripled compared with the proportion of the previous two years.

A reporter from the Beijing Evening News got this information after making an investigation1 among 10 plastic hospitals in Beijing.

“In the past, one out of every ten people who took plastic surgeries might be a man. But now, three of them might be male,” said Chen Huanran, a renowned2 doctor on plastic surgery. For young people, many wanted to work in the entertainment circle, therefore they came to the hospital to make themselves look more handsome. For these people, their favorite surgeries were surgeries about noses or chins. Some middle-aged3 men also came to the hospital in the hope of changing their image for work purpose. Among them there were officials and professors and mostly with good incomes. What they wanted most was to get rid of their eye wrinkles or eye bags. A few of them wanted to change the shape of their faces, Chen said.

“Even if we don’t work in the entertainment circle, we want to have a good image in front of others. Who else don’t want to have a handsome look, though!” said a man called Mr. Qi, who had just had a plastic surgery about his cheeks.

Mr. Qi told this reporter that in his daily work, he spent a lot of time with his boss or his subordinates. In order to have a good image in front of them, he asked the doctors to change the shape of his pointed4 chin to one that looked more masculine.

“It cost me a lot of money. But it’s worth it,” Mr. Qi said.

According to him, men living in modern society should pay more attention to their looks. In order to make themselves look more handsome, many men are willing to spend a lot of money to take care of their skins and hair. And an increasing number of men now want to take plastic surgeries.

“One of my friends in a government department took a nose plastic surgery recently. He wanted to make himself look younger,” Mr. Qi said.

From over ten plastic hospitals that the reporter visited in Beijing, he has learned that more and more men nowadays go to these hospitals to take plastic surgeries. Although men and women are charged with the same fees on the same type of plastic surgery, this reporter learned that on the whole, men spent more on plastic surgeries than women.
