Chinanews, Kunming, November 29 – Yunnan has arrested 59,377 drug traffickers and confiscated1 26 tons of drugs since October, 2004, according to the provincial2 Department of Public Security.
Yunnan, located next to the infamous3 Golden Triangle, has long been an important channel for international drug trafficking. China launched a special campaign against drugs and AIDS contagion4 in the province in 2004.
At present, the average price of drugs in Yunnan has become much higher, and both the acreage of poppy fields and the number of drug producers and traffickers have become much smaller.
