Chinanews, Xi'an, Nov. 29 – About 30 unmarried women who are now studying for their doctorate1 degrees at a dozen ten universities in Xi'an recently attended a matchmaking party organized by an online matchmaking company called jiayuan.com. The group of highly educated women, together with 270 other unmarried women and men, gathered at the Time's Hotel in the northern suburb of Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province. However, few of them had succeeded in finding an ideal husband at the party.

Among these 30 intellectual women, the youngest is 28 years old while the oldest is 35. The majors they study are also varied2, from medical science to psychology3, from Chinese history, philosophy to English. Some of them study in the Shaanxi Normal University; some study in the Northwest University of Political Science. There are still some who study in the Xi'an Jiaotong University or the Xi'an Arts School. Most of the women attending the party study in the liberal arts field.

One of the women, who refused to disclose her identity, told this reporter about their motives4 of attending the matchmaking party.

“We are often stereotyped5 as someone who know nothing except doing researches. However, as women, we talk a lot about cosmetics6 goods and clothes in our spare time. Since we need to finish our study, we might not have as much time to see movies or go shopping as women in general. But this doesn't mean that we don't love these things. Today, we come to this matchmaking party only to show to others that as intellectual women, we are also charming women and hope to be able to find our Mr. Right.”

Although these women did display their charm at the party, many men were still scared away by their high educational background. When the party ended, only one woman with a PhD degree found a man she liked.
