Chinanwes, Beijing, December 3 – According to a report by Beijing Morning Post, Beijiners' sense of security has greatly improved.
The Beijing General Investigation1 Team of the National Statistics Bureau conducted a survey on the sense of security of Beijingers in the third quarter of 2007, finding that 63.3% of all the respondents have a “good” or “somewhat good” sense of security, 8.9% higher than the proportion in the same period last year and 8.0% higher than the average annual proportion of 2006. In 2006, the top concern of Beijingers was public security, and now, it is only the fifth. Currently, Beijing has a registered shifting population of 5.3 million, 3.6 million of whom have lived or plans to settle in Beijing for long. As shifting population contributes 70% of criminal offences in Beijing, Beijing police will start a joint2 campaign with the police of several other provinces and autonomous3 regions to control the incidence of crimes among shifting population while offering them better service. The campaign will be kicked off before the Spring Festival in 2008.
