Chinanews, Beijing, Dec. 4 – “I don't know why the test shows my antibody has turned negative now,” said Wen Congcheng. In 2001 and 2003, Wen took two medical tests and during these two tests, his HIV antibody was shown to be positive. In a recent test, however, the same test showed that his HIV antibody had turned negative. Wen felt puzzled by the test result and he claimed that he still felt somewhat tired, People's Daily reported.

On December 2, at the Chuan Ying Qu Guan An Hospital in Jilin, Wen showed his recent medical report to this reporter. The medical report was done by the Beihua University No. 1 Clinic Hospital. On it, this reporter saw that his antibody was “tested negative.” After knowing the result, Wen had been to four other hospitals, including the renowned1 No.1 Affiliated2 Hospital of China Medical University, to confirm the result and all these hospitals had presented the same result: his HIV antibody was tested negative.

If the test result is right, Wen will become the first person in China to have recovered from HIV disease. Before him, only one person in the world had encountered a similar situation. In 2002, a 25-year-old British man named Andrew was diagnosed3 to have been infected with HIV virus. 14 months later, however, when he took a test again, it showed that his HIV antibody was negative.

Wen is a farmer living in Er Daogou Village, Dengzhan Town, Chuanyingqu of Jilin Province. In 2001, local medical center at Chuanyingqu carried out a HIV test among all those farmers who had once donated blood. During that test, Wen's HIV antibody was shown to be positive. The medical center notified4 Wen about the medical result at the end of 2003. Since then, Wen had always been regarded as a HIV-AIDS patient.

“His HIV antibody now shows to be negative. We don't know whether it might turn positive again in future. Right now, we are still not clear why some people had such physical changes,” said Lang Ying, deputy5 director of the Chuanyingqu local medical center.
