Chinanews, Lhasa, Dec. 22 – Tibet is endeavoring1 to turn the region into a world-famous tourist destination, it being blessed with the word's tallest mountain, Mt. Qomolangma and other nature reserves.
Currently2, the Podala Palace and the Mt. Qomolangma are famous among foreign tourists, and local officials hope the number of Tibet's grade 4-A naturel reserves on the national list can reach 12 by the year of 2015. According to statistics3, the number of tourists visiting Tibet from home and abroad has reached 4 million in 2007, an increase of 60% from 2006. Tourism has become an important industry in Tibet. Local officials hope that Tibet hopes it can receive 6 million tourists by the year of 2010.
