Chinanews, Beijing, November 28 – At 10:00 am on November 28, Shenzhen, a missile cruiser of the Chinese PLA Navy, arrived at the Harumi Port of the Tokyo Bay, accompanied by several Japanese frigates1. This was the first time for the PLA Navy to pay an official visit to Japan.
By now, China has established military relationship with 150-odd countries, and the military attachéoffice of the PLA can be found in 107 countries. In China, there are military attachéoffices of 85 countries. Every year, hundreds of foreign military delegations2 with come to China to discuss national defense3 and security affairs. Since 1995, China has published 6 white papers on national defense to clearly convey the strategic ideas on issues such as security, nuclear weaponry and army building to the rest of the world and to show the condition of China’s national defense as well as its armed forces. A large number of overseas military observers have been invited to review China’s military maneuvers4, while Chinese military observers have also been invited by other countries to review their military maneuvers. China has played an active part in the UN peacekeeping missions, by sending 8,000 soldiers and officials, the most of all the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council. In the last 5 years, the PLA has taken part in 10 humanitarian5 assistance missions to 14 countries.
