The Observer II, China's first missile-carrying unmanned surface vehicle (USV), had its public debut1 on Tuesday at the 12th China International Aviation and Aerospace2 Exhibition.

Jointly3 developed by private domestic military enterprises and state-owned military research institutes, the unmanned boat can undertake reconnaissance and precision strike missions. It can also be used to issue patrol warnings in waters around islands and
estuaries4.
As well as being able to
accurately5 strike small and medium-sized targets at sea, it can provide support to military amphibious assault units by launching strikes on mobile and
fixed6 targets in
coastal7 areas.
