The Observer II, China's first missile-carrying unmanned surface vehicle (USV), had its public debut¹ on Tuesday at the 12th China International Aviation and Aerospace² Exhibition.

Jointly³ developed by private domestic military enterprises and state-owned military research institutes, the unmanned boat can undertake reconnaissance and precision strike missions. It can also be used to issue patrol warnings in waters around islands and estuaries⁴.

As well as being able to accurately⁵ strike small and medium-sized targets at sea, it can provide support to military amphibious assault units by launching strikes on mobile and fixed⁶ targets in coastal⁷ areas.
