Online retail1 in China is worth more than that in the UK and USA combined.
中国网络销售额超过英美两国销售额之和。
Not only that, it's also growing at a rate of around 20 percent per annum - which is around twice as fast as the latter two countries.
That's according to specialist publication Axios, who suggest two key reasons that e-commerce is enjoying such success in China.
The first is that Chinese people are significantly more likely to shop on their telephones or tablets than Americans or British people.
Apparently2, close to three quarters of online transactions in China are made on mobile devices.
Secondly3, Chinese people
statistically4 spend more time online shopping - with Axios suggesting that the average shopper in China will spend 30 minutes a day
browsing5 products.
All of this helps to explain why European and American online firms have been keen to
emulate6 the success of their Chinese counterparts.
For example, late in 2016, Sino.uk reported that a German online
retailer7, Zalando, had taken inspiration from Chinese firms in its quest to rival Amazon's European fashion business.
