The New York Public Library announced Thursday on its website that it is launching "Subway Library," a new initiative between the New York, Brooklyn and Queens Libraries, the MTA and Transit1 Wireless2 that provides straphangers with free access to hundreds of e-books "for all ages."
To access the e-books, subway riders underground will connect to the free TransitWirelessWiFi on their smartphones, or other internet-able devices, and then click on the SubwayLibrary.com prompt. They'll then have access to the "e-books, excerpts3, and short stories -- all ready to read on the train."
The library is also promoting its e-reader app, SimplyE. "We also hope people enjoy this taste of what we offer so much that they visit a library branch, or download SimplyE -- our free e-reader app -- which gives people access to NYPL's entire collection of free e-books," NYPL said in a statement.
