The famous Wulanhada Volcano Geopark in Chahar Right Back Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous¹ Region, has been closed for renovation², reports Beijing Youth Daily.

The geopark, which is only about 380 kilometers from Beijing, was called a natural "volcano museum" for its peculiar³ geological structures, such as volcanoes, lava⁴ fields and barrier lakes.

 

As many as 6,000 tourists from across China can be drawn⁵ to the park in a single day, according to local tourism authority.

 

However, the ever increasing number of tourists has surpassed the reception capacity of the geopark, which has poor infrastructures⁶ and a fragile grassland⁷ environment.

 

On Monday, local tourism authorities released a formal notice, forbidding any unauthorized entry to the park.

 

The notice added that the date for the park to open again is unknown at the moment.
