The Queen has handed Meghan Markle her first official Royal role, and it couldn't be more of a perfect for the Duchess of Sussex.

Royal sources claim Meghan has been asked to take over as patron of the National Theatre, and believe it's a "natural fit" thanks to her acting¹ experience.

 

Insiders say Meghan has already hit the ground running and had a private meeting with the organisation's director Rufus Norris last month to discuss her new role.

 

Like the rest of the royal family, the duchess will have a number of patronages which are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

 

Meghan reportedly met the Queen for tea to discuss the new role at the end of last year, amid claims she is looking to reduce her workload² after turning 92 this year.

 

The Duchess studied theatre at university before landing a series of acting roles. Her big break came with legal drama Suits, which she starred in for seven years before she married Prince Harry³.

 

She's a big theatre lover, and joined Prince Harry for a charity performance of Hamilton at London's Victoria Palace Theatre last year.

 

One of Meghan's tasks will be to strengthen connections between the theatre and American benefactors⁴. Bosses hope there will be a certain 'Meghan dividend⁵'.

 

Meghan's first solo project as a royal is well underway after she launched a charity cookbook to raise money for a community kitchen which serves people affected⁶ by the Grenfell Tower fire.

 

The book, a collection of recipes written by women who work in the kitchen, instantly became a bestseller on Amazon.
