Chinanews, Beijing, September 14 – The National Population Development Strategy Report, released on September 11 by the National Population Development Strategy Research Group, says that in the next 20 years, about 300 million rural population will be converted into urban population, if China keeps its annual urbanization rate of 1%.
It can be estimated that the booming urban population will raise a great challenge to urban planners as well as public service facilities in cities. Besides, it also means that the exercising of the family planning policy will also need some adjustment as the shifting population will increase sharply. According to the report, there are still 150 million – 170 million rural population in need of jobs. That is to say, large population shifting will last for a long time in China. It is suggested that local governments should work hard on the registration1 of shifting population, and make sure that all of the migrant workers get information on job openings and employment trainings.
