Chinanews, Shanghai, Sept 15 – As more and more people raise pet dogs today, the little animals sometimes cause a lot of troubles to community residents. Recently, residents living in the Jin Xiu Hua Cheng residential1 community in Shanghai have established their own dog fighting team to catch stray dogs so that they won't bother their life any more, the Shanghai Morning Post reported.

The action was actually initiated2 by a survey. In that survey, residents in the community center found that 80% of the dogs wandering in their community were stray dogs. The stray dogs had caused a lot of trouble to people living in the community center.

However, community residents' decision to set up their dog fighting team has aroused great controversy3 in society. Some dog lovers say that by protecting themselves, community residents should have a kind heart to these animals and should not chase them. However, experts support the residents, saying that their action can encourage more people to raise dogs in a more responsible way.

In Shanghai, 100,000 people raise their dogs all with dog-raising certificates. However, there are still 500,000 people in Shanghai who keep dogs without obtaining any certificates at all. Many dogs have not received rabies vaccine4 injection and when these dogs bite people, they might pass the rabies virus to humans. Apart from these, pet dogs have caused many other problems to people living in residential communities.

When community residents decided5 to set up their dog fighting team, many residents living in Jin Xiu Hua Cheng community applauded the idea. “It’s time for us to do something to solve the dog problems in our community,” said a resident surnamed Sun, who thought that the problems caused by dogs in her community could only be solved by strict measures. However, another resident in the community, Ms. Chen, said the dog fighting team should only take action after everybody in the community was informed, including dog lovers.
