Chinanews, Chongqing, Oct 19 – The Ministry of Commerce issued a report on Wednesday about the wedding service market in China in 2006-2007. According to this report, in 2006 a new couple spent an average of 126,600 yuan for their wedding, the Chongqing Morning Post reported.

The report investigated the wedding expenditure2 of some 60,000 couples that got married last year. It finds that while most newlyweds spent much of their money for the wedding ceremony and the wedding banquet, their wedding spending now covers more items. Taking wedding pictures, hiring wedding gowns, buying jewelleries, hiring an agent to design the wedding ceremony and new house decoration all play an important part in their wedding expenditure. On average, a new couple would spend 3879.52 yuan on taking wedding pictures, 6052.53 yuan buying jewelleries, 1891.37 yuan for the wedding gowns, and 7961.46 yuan for the wedding ceremony design. Their wedding banquet might cost 1,014 yuan per set. If expenditures3 on furniture, household appliances and house decorations are all included, a new couple might spend as much as 126,600 yuan for their wedding.

On the othe hand, these 60,000 couples make 6249.10 yuan a month on average. In other words, their wedding expenditure is 20 times their average monthly salary, the report says.

The report finds that people in southwest and east China regions spend more for their wedding ceremonies compared with people in other regions. New couples in southwest China region, including Chongqing, spend much of their money on things like taking pictures, buying or renting wedding gowns, wedding designing and buying furniture, while couples in east China region spend a lot on wedding banquets, buying jewelleries, house decoration and buying household appliances.
