Chinanews, Hangzhou, Nov. 15 – A report on investigation1 of migrant workers' sex issues was recently published in the August issue of The Chinese Journal of Human Sexuality. The survey was done mostly among migrant workers in Zhejiang. It is said that this is the first report about migrant workers' sexuality issues, the Metro2 Express reported.

Of 800 migrant workers investigated 481 are married, accounting3 for 59.87% of the total number of people polled. Of the married ones, 307 are male, accounting for 61.54% of the total number, and 174 being female.

The survey shows that 83.93% of the migrant workers go home for family reunion at least once in a year. However, 16.07% of them haven't done so for more than one year now. A very small proportion haven't returned home for more than two years. These people can't stay with their spouse4 mostly because one of the couple should stay at home to do farming or household chores, or because it is difficult for both of them to find a job in cities. However, some people say they don't want their spouses5 to stay with them in a different place.

Most migrant workers say they miss their spouses most when they are away from their spouses, followed by their children and their parents. However, 5.59% of the people say they miss nobody.

Of the 533 migrant workers that work in a different city, 41.84% want to have extramarital experiences even if they are already married or have engaged with someone. 12.01% of them only think about extramarital sex. However, 24.53% of them actually have the experience. The latter group of people might have sexual relations with their mistresses, colleagues or prostitutes. But mistresses make up the most part (67.05%) in this case.

776 people were polled about sexual harassment6 issue. In this poll, 139 people claim they have sexual harassment experiences, which is a large proportion. 20 people say they have been sexually harassed7 by their bosses, 25 people by their colleagues and the rest by some other people. How do they view sexual harassment? In the survey, 22 people say they deem it quite normal. 27 people say they will tolerate it and 92 people say they will oppose it. In addition, 54 people say they have practiced sexual harassement on other people.

Of the 500 people polled, 51.2% say they were once seduced8 by prostitutes. 22.95% of the people once thought of visiting prostitutes and 15.82% of them once paid for sex services.
