The most recent competition, the eighth to date, was won by 17-year-old Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson. Familiar judges Osbourne will be the only British-born personality on the programme, following in the footsteps of other UK stars. Spice Girl Mel B took part in the show in 2007, and was narrowly beaten in the final by Brazilian racing2 driver Helio Castroneves. Sir Paul McCartney's former wife Heather Mills made it to the sixth week of the competition in an earlier series that year. Singer Donny Osmond's famous sister Marie has also taken part, finishing in third place. Another new contestant3, actor and comedian4 Ashley Hamilton, was preceded by his well-known father George in a past series. The programme, which is based on the UK's Strictly5 Come Dancing, runs for two series each year. Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli, who are familiar to Strictly viewers, also act as judges in the US version. Other contestants6 on the new series are former supermodel Kathy Ireland, Food Network host Mark Dacascos, ex-American Football player Michael Irvin.
