C919, China's first domestically-built large passenger plane is scheduled to conduct its most important and also the most risky¹ step on May 5th.

Its maiden² flight will take place at Pudong airport in Shanghai.

 

The crew members for the flight include 3 pilots and 2 flight engineers, all of whom are male, according to a report by People's Daily.

 

The maiden flight aims to test if the plane is able to fly under normal weather conditions. All of the plane's systems including communication, navigation, electricity and hydraulic³ pressure will be checked during the test.

 

Zhang Dawei, one of the engineers, said that the crew members have prepared themselves by studying over a hundred possible emergencies and their solutions, as C919's maiden flight will be full of uncertainties⁴.
