Golden Girls actress Betty White is to receive a lifetime achievement honour at the Screen Actors Guild¹ (SAG²) Awards next year, it has been announced.

The 87-year-old is being honoured for her TV and film career spanning（跨越） more than 60 years, and also for her work as an animal advocate（提倡者，拥护者）.

SAG president Alan Rosenberg praised the 87-year-old for her "impeccable（无瑕疵的） comic（滑稽的，有趣的） timing³ and remarkable⁴ wit".

White will be presented the award at a ceremony on 23 January 2010.

"Whether creating some of television's most indelible（不能消除的，难忘的） characters, plunging⁵ into film roles with joyous⁶（快乐的，高兴的） gusto（爱好，嗜好） or perfecting the art of the quip（警句，讽刺） as a television panellist and host, Betty White has entertained audiences with her impeccable comic timing and remarkable wit for more than 60 years," Rosenberg said.

He added: "Her lifelong devotion to the welfare of animals, manifest（显示，出现） in her work as an author, producer and philanthropist（博爱的人，慈善家）, is further evidence of her tremendous humanity and meaningful contributions in so many important areas."

At the age of 63, White began her most famous role on screen as Rose Nylund in The Golden Girls, alongside Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty and Rue⁷ McClanahan.

The role, which she played from 1985 to 1992, won her an Emmy for best actress in a comedy series in 1986, as well as six subsequent（随后的，到来的） nominations⁸ in the same category every year after.

The actress was last seen on the big screen opposite Sandra Bullock as Ryan Reynold's scene-stealing Grandma Annie in the romantic comedy The Proposal.

Off-screen, White has been a member of the board of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association since 1974 and received the American Veterinary Medical Association's Humane⁹ Award in 1987.

Two years ago she also made an honorary Doctor of Humane Veterinary Sciences by Western University Veterinary School.
