The professor said they had been running the test many times and the success rate had reached 90% now. During the test, a firework that measured 12 cun (about 40 centimeters) in diameter was launched into the sky through a cannon2 controlled by a computer. The firework exploded and displayed the pattern of the Olympic rings in the sky. A small chip had been embedded3 into the firework and the chip could control the firework pattern and the launching time，the Modern Express reported. As one of the Olympic rings is black in color, someone wonder how the firework will show the black Olympic ring in the evening? In order to deal with this problem, Professor Pan said they would use the color of purple to represent the black Olympic ring. Apart from the Olympic rings, the firework can also display the pattern of 2008 in the sky and in future, fireworks that can display Chinese characters for “Beijing” will also be produced. Professor Pan said they were all selected as the potential schemes for the 2008 Olympic fireworks show. But it was most probable for the scheme of using fireworks to display the five Olympic rings to be chosen finally.
