Li Na in action. 2006-09-29 |
Sept. 30 - China's Li Na made an early exit from the WTA Guangzhou International Open after a surprising loss to Tzipora Obziler of Israel, 6-3, 6-2.
Li, the number-two seed and a 2004 champion, stumbled at the quarterfinal hurdle1 for the second consecutive2 year.
The loss also means the forfeit3 of the much-anticipated championship clash between the top two seeds, who have both been very hot in the last few months.
Number-one seed Jelena Jankovic moved on with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Alicia Molik.
Another Chinese player in the quarterfinals, Chen Yanchong, also faltered4, despite a marvelous first set win. She lost to number-four seed Anna Medina Garrigues: 1-6, 6-0, 6-2.
The defeat ended the Chinese players' run in the home tournament.
The last semi-finalist is Anna Chakvetadze.
