Chinanews, Beijing, May 21 - The badge design contest supported by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) was kicked off on May 17 in Beijing, to solicit1 the design of the badge for the 2008 Olympic Games from people in the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
Every Olympic Games has its unique badge, representing the tradition and art style of the hosts country, as well as the Olympic spirit of friendship and peace. The first Olympic badge came into being in 1896, when the Athens Olympic Games was held. Nowadays, various Olympic badges have become the favorites of collectors worldwide. The organizing committees of the Games even prepare special zones for collectors to exchange badges, and such zone will be arranged during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The deadline for the contestants2 to submit their designs is set on June 30, and the result will be announced on August 8, 2007, one year countdown to the 2008 Beijing Games.
