Chinanews, Haikou, Jul. 11 – Zhang Huimin, an 8-year-old long-distance runner, hopes to continue her Haikou-Beijing Race. On Monday, she crossed the Qiongzhou Strait and arrived in Guangdong Province.
Her father Zhang Jianmin, accompanied her to the Xuwen County of Guangdong. Officials in Hainan had tried to persuade the father to give up such their long-distance running plan early last Sunday, but her father had refused. Zhang Huimin started her race from Sanya in the island province of Hainan on July 3, and she planned to run through Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei, Henan, Hebei, Tianjin and Beijing. Zhang said she hoped she could arrive at Tiananmen Square on August 28. Zhang finished marathon running last year, and her father wants to train her to be able to participate in the 2016 Summer Olympics. Zhou Wenzhang, the top Party chief of Hainan Provincial1 Publicity2 Department, has talked with Zhang Huimin’s father for an hour before father and daughter left Haikou, trying to dissuade3 him from pursuing their plan. But Zhang Jianmin finally said his daughter would keep on running.
