Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 22 – The Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee on Tuesday kicked off a world-scale campaign to collect one million picture letters from around the world. Writers of the letters whose pictures have been selected by the committee will have a chance to attend the Beijing Olympic Games World Picture Letters Exhibition that will be held in the capital in June next year.
Picture letter is a kind of letter on which the writer, besides words, can also draw some pictures. The letter first appeared in Japan. “Although every country has its own culture and language, the Olympic Games is a worldwide event and everyone in the world knows about it. By organizing this event, we hope that people all around the world can express their wishes for the Olympic Games in their own ways,” said Ni Songlin, chairman of the Suzhou Picture Letters Association1, the first association of its kind established by nongovernmental sources in China. The event will be open to 180 countries and regions2 in the world, including those that have arranged to participate in the Olympic Games. About one million picture letters will be collected for the event. Starting from today until March 31, next year, writers can send their products to the picture letter organizing committee. It is actually very easy to make a picture letter. Take a brush and draw a picture on a postcard made of Xuan paper, then write a few words about your understanding of the Olympic Games and your wishes for the Games, and send it to the Suzhou Picture Letters Association. Then you have finished your masterpiece!
