Chinanews, Beijing, October 23 – Though there are arguments about what is the most popular sport in China, statistics1 show that basketball definitely deserves the top, particularly among young people, said Hao Guohua, the director of the CBA league match managing office on October 22, 2007.

 

According to Infront Sport & Media, the company responsible for promoting CBA, the average seat attendance2 of the 268 games in the previous season was 72.32%, and the rate at the post-season games was even 78.38%. During the finals, the seat attendance was 100%. More than 430 million people watched the games on TV. CBA league match has been well accepted by the general public.

 

In the eyes of American press, basketball is also the most popular sport in China. Two NBA teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic, came to China last week, attracting many Chinese basketball fans.

 

Currently3, there are 300 million Chinese who play basketball. In the past few years, the number of young people taking to basketball has increased by nearly 500%.
