Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged to prepare and host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in a green, sharing, open and corruption-free manner, saying the event will be "remarkable¹, extraordinary and excellent."

Xi Jinping made the remarks during his meeting with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach at the International Olympic Museum in Lausanne on Wednesday.

 

During the meeting, President Xi expressed his appreciation² for the consistent and important contributions of the IOC to the sound development of the international Olympic Movement, and its great help to the cause of sport in China.

 

Xi Jinping also said China will take the 2022 winter games as an opportunity to facilitate the nation's competitive sports and mass sports, so as to improve the health of Chinese people.

 

Touching³ upon the economic effect of the Olympics, President Xi said the event will also be conducive⁴ to economic growth along the One Belt and One Road as well as regional peace and stability.

 

While looking forward to the 2022 event, Bach said the IOC has been paying particular attention to China's reform and development, and believes that China will see more achievements in various areas, such as politics, economy, culture, and sports.

 

China will host its first winter Olympics in 2022, with Beijing and the northern city Zhangjiakou as co-hosting cities.

 

This is the third time China will host an Olympic event, following the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics.
