Mar1.16 - Chinese snooker player Ding Junhui is set to carve a new milestone2 in his career after beating Britain's Mark Davis 10-6 at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

 

The win sends the 19-year-old snooker prodigy3 through to the final stages of the 888.com World Snooker Championship for the first time. He will face one of the game's top 16 players in the first round of the championship held in Crucible4 next month.

 

"Mark put me under pressure because of how well he played. After I went 8-6 up I felt better and played two good frames to win," Ding said after the match.

 

Davis constructed breaks of 129, 73 and 79 to win four successive frames and lead 4-2. He finished the opening session with a run of 117, giving him a 5-4 advantage.

 

He was still in the match at 6-6 but Ding won the next on the black and then produced a last red to black clearance5 to make it 8-6.

 

Ding finished off the game with breaks of 114 and 126 to secure his place in the crucial and continue his push to become the youngest world snooker champion in tournament history.

 

Seven-times winner Stephen Hendry currently holds that title, after winning his first championship at the age of 21 in 1990.
