July 28 - Construction of the Beijing Shooting Range Hall and the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park has finished, making the facilities the first among those built from scratch for next year's Games.
Completion ceremonies for the two projects were held on Saturday, the Xinhua News Agency reported. Work on the shooting hall started in 2004. It has a total land surface area of more than 45,000 square metres and a capacity of 8,600 seats. The first gold medal of the Beijing Olympics will be presented there in August 2008. The shooting hall, located in Shijingshan district in west Beijing, will host about 10 events in the Beijing Olympics and Paralympic Games. Meanwhile the water park in Shunyi district in the capital's northeast near the Chaobai river, covers some 163 hectares. It will host rowing, canoeing, kayaking and marathon swimming at the Olympics, and rowing during the Paralympics.
