Sept. 19 - China's Yan Zi was ousted1 by Abigail Spears of the United States 7-5, 6-3 at the China Open tennis tournament on Tuesday.
Yan, ranked 74th in the world, delivered two aces2 during the whole match against her opponent's none, but she also made five double errors compared with Spears' two. Yan broke Spears' serve in the sixth game, but Spears caught up finally to win the first set 7-5. In the second set, Yan Zi could not find her rhythm and Spears won 6-3 breezily. Yan said: "My tactics3 was wrong. Spears is stronger than me, and she played aggressively. I should have not tried to suppress4 her by strength." In Tuesday's other matches, Chinese Peng Shuai beat her compariot Xu Yifan 6-1, 6-4 easily, and Chinese Sun Tiantian, Athens gold medal winner in women's doubles, lost to Martina Hingis of Switzerland 5-7, 3-6.
